BEST MARKETS IN LONDON TO GET BBQ FOOD
With the good weather finally on the horizon and many of the restrictions we have had to put up with in the UK being lifted, you will be able to enjoy a traditional British summer BBQ. If you tend to find yourself heading to your favourite supermarket for your BBQ food and are looking to up your game a little this year, you should check out some of the great markets dotted around London. Not sure where to start your search? Below we’ve highlighted the 5 London markets we think offer the best of the best in BBQ food.
BROADWAY MARKET
Found in the London borough of Hackney, Broadway Market is the smallest of the markets on our list. Don’t let that fool you, though, as it commands an enviable reputation and is continuing to expand and grow. This is in part because it offers a wide range of organically sourced food, including venison, veal, freshly caught fish and rare breed pork for your own BBQ. If you try the tantalising BBQ stands they have there, though, you won’t be disappointed.
STRATFORD OUTDOOR MARKET
The Westfield Centre is one of the key reasons why you should venture to Stratford if you are in the east of London. There you will find a Vue Cinema and amazing boutique stores, chains and so much more. However, it’s not the only draw to that part of the city, as the Stratford Outdoor Market, off The Broadway has some of the best BBQ stalls in the city that pride themselves on their locally-sourced meats.
MALTBY STREET
Maltby Street is a relatively new addition to the popular London market scene and may actually be the coolest. Found in the southeast of the city, it is mainly open during the weekend. Famous for scrumptious gourmet street food, microbreweries and the many artisan patrons that frequent it, you will find something for everyone here. That includes finger-licking BBQ food. Don’t worry about whether you will fit in with the young and trendy, if you love good food, give it a chance.
HAWKER HOUSE
Although it is a gem of a London market at any time of the year, Hawker House, also in the southeast, really comes to life during summer, when it stretches outside the main building. More floor space means more stalls. Among the many delectable cuisines catered for, it’s the BBQ food that the Financial Times once described as being “all about meat”.
BOROUGH MARKET
Found between Borough High and Winchester Walk, the London market with a commanding presence and glowing reputation have been open for business since back in the 13th century. There is so much to see, smell and taste here with more than 100 stands and stalls. More than a few of these sell some truly fantastic BBQ food. Real melt in your mouth stuff. Everything is exceptionally fresh, with there being a wide variety of veg, meat and fish on offer.
Any of these great London markets will provide you with stunning examples of street food catering. However, if you want to have something a bit more mobile, while still benefitting from extraordinary flavours, you could try mobile food truck catering from Chop and Chip.
